I've stopped in this place twice in the last couple days. Normally, I would probably give this place a solid 3 stars but in light of the limited options in the area, I would comparatively give this place 4 stars. If you're looking for a place for a reasonably priced (for the area) drink and eats this is your best bet. I went to M R Hummers yesterday and it was terribly mediocre. I ordered the plane Jane burger and a drink that wasn't on the menu that the bartender suggested (some kind of short apple drink that has cinnamon). Yummy. I had two. There was also a band playing both afternoons I walked in for a drink. This is a great meet up spot with friends doing different activities throughout the day.

Whiskey Jack's is a great place to come and grab a drink for lunch or after a long day of skiing. My friends and I had a great time here sharing drinks and recapping the day while enjoying above average bar foods. The nachos are a great purchase! I was impressed with Whiskey Jack's beer selection. With such quality food and a prime location how could you not go back!

Food is mediocre - Sysco sourced can only ceiling out at 3 stars. Bloody Mary was subpar. This is a good example of a resort restaurant that counts on people coming here because there is little other options- not because the food is actually good.

Fun restaurant/bar for lunch, dinner, après ski or evening, Have been here a few times, and the food is actually surprisingly good for a bar-type place --good burgers, nachos, and tonight tried the chili verde, and it was delicious - had a kick to it, too! They have live music on the weekends and holidays, après ski (3:30-5:30) and in the evening (9:30-12:30) which is fun. They have poker on the weekends, too. Nice selection of craft beer and cocktails, too.

Whiskey Jack's is a great slope side resteraunt and bar. They have large indoor seating with great views of the lift and slopes. We had lunch here and a few drinks after a long day of skiing & boarding. Hairier Half had their Bison Quesadillas which were delicious and plentiful. I had a fabulous Chicken Caesar (boring I know) but it was good and again plentiful. Their prices are good, very good considering their location and the quality of their food and the service we received. They stayed busy but you wouldn't know it by the attentiveness of our waitress. We dropped in later in the day for a few adult beverages and some shopping in the nearby shops. They have a great selection of craft brews to try as well as the usual players. This place is hands down one of the best places to dine in the area if not the best.

It's the end of the day and your ski party needs to meet somewhere. Whiskey Jack's is the perfect spot. Après-ski. Close to the lifts, very roomy with plenty of tables, and a band playing. I also like the fact that I could get up from the table for a few minutes and go to another part of the mall and buy some souvenirs without having to go back outside. No problems with service. Craft beers and nachos. What more do you need to end the day?

Whiskey Jack's is awesome. They have a great selection of drinks, including like eight hot drinks, which is great for a mid-day ski break. The food is good too. They have an option for regular beef for hamburgers or the American version of Kobe beef, which is really good. And the actual bar is really cool, reminds me of an old west saloon.

This après ski spot really enhanced our end of season snowboarding trip to Big Sky. For starters, the location is both at the lift and inside the Mountain Mall. We enjoyed everything from a quick brew between runs to a sit down dinner on Sunday night. Most of our visits were for beer & appetizers at the bar after the lifts closed. My favorites were the Ninkasi IPA & bison quesadillas. The bartenders were all very friendly and attentive, eager to provide dining suggestions and make sure you're happy. As for our dinner, the bison fajitas were excellent (skimpy on the bison meat though, not sure if the other meat options were equally lacking in portion size). The only real negative was our server (2.5 stars here). She wasn't THAT bad, but between the awesome atmosphere and our already stellar experiences at the bar, my expectations were pretty high. That being said, she was thoroughly unenthused to be serving us. She was visibly annoyed at my drink request (which had a grand total of three ingredients), and she had no regard for pacing the meal (soup came out before drinks, main course hit the table before the second bite of the appetizer, etc). She wasn't sure of which beers on tap were IPAs, and there was no two bite/two minute check back to make sure we had everything we need. Nobody likes to wait for their sour cream before getting to enjoy the sizzling fajitas in front of them...but I digress. Anyway, I still definitely recommend the place, particularly for the bar. You'll likely enjoy any of their southwestern selections, and atmosphere after walking off the slopes really can't be beat. I would love to go back.

Great venue and beer. Dear God is the service horrible. Waiting 15 minutes for each beer. Asked for a water three times with no success. Staff is either over-worked or under-trained.

We had many meals here over a 3 years caning for ski, never disappointed, great beer , great food , Mexican style , done well really. It is true 4 star!!! We love it.

Terrible service. Mediocre food. No place to sit with the music at just a moderate level. Did I mention the terrible service from totally untrained and uncaring waiters? Fish burrito...OK Tacos...OK Southwest Ceasar salad...too spicy to eat. Fajita salad...just some meat dumped on greens. Truly mediocre.

  • Keith B.

They serve frozen bison burgers that cannot be made to order, even after sending it back because it was well done it came out the same. Rest of food is delicious.

First day in big sky and only place for après ski is WJ's which made me a little nervous. Immediately liked the place as this was first après ski spot you Re not fighting for a table with ski clothes lying everywhere waiting for beer and nachos to be spilled on them. Had the moose droppings brown ale - chicken wings which were very tasty but SUPER hot, Chips and salsa marginal as worst quacamole ever chicken tacos made up for that although needed more condiments. Music was loud and bad but space made up for it

Aside from the utterly unpleasant hostess this past Saturday at lunch, I was surprised to find this was a reasonably priced - both beer and food - slopeside destination where the food actually lived up to the hype. Our waitress Claire was great, and the bison quesadilla was delicious as advertised. And $4 microbrews on a ski hill? There's something to drink to!

My husband and I stopped in here twice on our 3 day trip to Big Sky, once for lunch and another time for drinks. 1. Food is ok. We both had the carnitas burrito topped with enchilada sauce. I asked for extra fajita vegetables in mine and was told it already came with peppers. My burrito arrived with no peppers inside. 2. Want a great hot drink? Have their apple pie! 3. Service for lunch was good. When there at night, our server ignored us. All we wanted was a few drinks and dessert! We went through the bartender instead and she was very helpful.

I was going to say, "Well, at least we didn't get sick," but my gut still isn't sure about that. Whiskey Jack's food is resort grub at its grubbiest. Sure, you can play some video poker while you're there, but here's a game that's just as fun: order the fajitas and try to decipher what animal, what cut, and what preparation produced those protein nuggets before you. Good times, if you drink lots of whiskey.

We stopped many afternoons after skiing at Whiski Jack's the week we spent at Big Sky. We enjoyed the food and always asked for our favorite waitress, Anna. She was amazing... both professional as a waitress and fun. She kept up laughing, remembered what we were drinking, and kept checking back to see if we needed anything. She is a great asset to that restaurant.

Eh... it's convenient. Chips and queso just ok. Southwest Caesar salad pretty good. Fancy margaritas sound better than they are. Although - watched the SEAHAWKS come back to beat the Packers on a giant big screen TV. So props for having the game on. No Doubt for Wilson!

Great bloody marys. Good nachos. Cool Beer. Live music. At the base of an epic mountain. What's not to like?

    Slightly above average bar food.

Convenient location at the base of Mountain Village with a Montana fair. Check your bill closely, a menu item was listed as $18, but rung-up on our bill as $23. Also, desserts are not listed on the menu, so when the server described the flan as lime infused, I did not expect to see popcorn and peanuts on top. When I mentioned that I am unable to eat peanuts, the server resisted taking it back, so my son had the $10 dessert. If that wasn't enough, shorty the server returned and told us that according to the kitchen there are no nuts on the flan, only caramel corn. We had to show him the peanut! If you have a peanut allergy, don't order the flan.

  • Farris W.

Food was great but our server literally rolled his eyes at its because we asked to wait to order. Mind you we ordered appetizers and beers all around so it's not as if he was losing money. Other than that great place awesome chili Verde

Ever go to a ski resort and want to grab a quick lunch only to find that the restaurant immediately available to you is a cafeteria with frozen pizza and hockey puck hamburgers? Well my friend, you can wake up from your nightmare now. Whiskey Jack's is a short walk from the lifts and serves some pretty amazing south western cuisine. The drinks were excellent, the ambience.... NOT a cafeteria... the bison quesadillas, REDONK. Service was excellent as well. Truth be told, this place was so good, we went for lunch all 3 days we were on the slopes. Why mess w/ a good thing?

  • Chelsea E.

Nothing fancy, but good food. Food came out fast and was pretty tasty. Service was real slow ... And it was a really slow weekday night. (thus the 3 stars). Foods a tad pricey, but I ordered the soup and nina quesadilla and it was massive-- couldn't finish it!

    (3)
  • April F.

The food was decent. I had the bison quesadillas and thought they were great. The nachos are huge but ok tasting and the tacos were lackluster. However, as I had read in the reviews on yelp the service is slow.

We are here several days. There is not many places on the hill, with ski gear, that provide Shelter as well as food. The seating is cafe style. While waiting to get seated its a free for all. The food is ok. All was hot and nice size portions. We tried several items on the menu and I personally thought the wings were the best. That may be one of there own dishes. The bison is bison. No complaint there. Is never had a shredded bison, but leaner than pork or beef. Quit tasty. The beer was cold and had a nice selection of draft. The service was nothing to rave about. Today we will try the outside grill!

This place sucks. Gross, poorly executed food. I can't believe I paid money for a meal here. Service was decent enough but seriously, the food sucks. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else.

Spent a week skiing Big Sky and Whiskey Jack's became the go to place.... Food is OK, the service is super attentive and more than illing to take care of any request. We had several menu items including Nachos, chicken lime salad, soup and quesadilla... all done great! They had live music some nights and apres ski music most of the time. Pretty solid place for food and entertaiment, plus if it's sunny outside they will pour you a beer to go!

While we were in Big Sky all last week we stopped in Whiskey Jack's at least 3 times. Not because it was that great but because there isn't much else to choose from in the resort area. The first night we had the mile high nachos which were pretty good. Not that best I have ever had but would get again. Also I had the west palm margarita or something like that. I asked Jill the waitress our first night for better tequilla since it comes with cuervo which she said of course. She didn't even charge me for the upgrade which was nice. She was our best server of the entire trip. The service definitely got worse after her. We went in again to try and watch the Illini game, being that we were there during March Madness. We ending up finding it on at Whiskey Jacks after we went to 2 other bars that didn't have the channel (disappointing considering it was TBS). We watched the game there and it was fun until another couple asked to change the channel and they obliged even though we were there watching first!!! Again I got that same margarita and this time it was $14 instead of $6.50. The third time we went the same drink was $12.50. So its obvious that they arbitrarily charge customers whatever they like. The food is a bit above average and the drinks are good albeit very expensive. Probably what is charged in Chicago. But that is how all the bars in BIg Sky resort area were. Whiskey Jacks is great for the location since its slopeside and is the biggest sports bar there. It was a fun time but the service and prices could have been much better! Room for improvement for sure.

This is the main restaurant/bar at the base of Big Sky ski resort. We always end up here for a few meals throughout our stay. The food is good and the service is decent (I usually don't expect to much at ski hills as the staff turnover rate is usually high). Prices are what you'd expect to pay at a ski resort, but not ridiculous - expect to pay $10-$15 for lunch (good sized portions). It gets pretty busy around mealtimes, so plan accordingly.

Best place on the mountain. Great bar food and a good selection of beers. Service experience was crazy good (Heather was exceptional as was the manager who never failed to check if everything was to our liking - good crew).

Went to Whiskey Jack's for lunch at Big Sky Resort. Had the calamity with swiss cheese and cheddar $10.75. It was tasty. Also had the tostada $12.95. Very affordable for sky resort prices.

Great spot in ski area. Nice beer selection and the bar tenders are very helpful and knowledge in tourist info and Yellowstone etc. great service and upscale bar food you can even run a few slots while you wait. Def will be coming back next time I'm in this area

At the base of the ski mountain we found 3 options of places to eat and this is the mid range one. There is a cafeteria on the floor above Whiskey Jacks and a nicer restaurant (Peaks) in the building next door. Whiskey Jacks is basically a large sports bar/ restaurant. I tried their burger once and it was pretty good and I tried their chili verde once and it was ok. The service was spotty but that is to be expected at a ski mountain because often times the servers and waiters are much more concerned if the next day is going to be a powder day or not then if you have silverware or if your water glass is empty. The location is great and in the middle of the base area. It is a very good meeting spot, has pretty good food, and has decent prices for being at a mountain base. We didn't make is there for apres ski but it is definitely located as and has the feel of what should be the best apres ski option on the mountain.

Best place on the mountain to grab a beer and a bite. Outstanding service! Especially Heather!!! She took great care of us for two days

  • Shelley B.

After a full day on the powder (and falling all over it learning to ski!) nothing tastes as good as a shared plate of Mile-High Nachos and a cold draft Moose Drool ale. We found the service to be great! A lively place when the lifts close, as they have apres-ski. Its at the base of the slopes and you can just walk in with ski boots on, looking a snowy mess, and feel warm and right at home.

You know those places where you go by default? Insert Whiskey Jack's. Want appetizers? Not here. Interested in friendly bar service? Go elsewhere, except there is no elsewhere. That's an exaggeration but your choices are limited. You'll inevitably end up at Whiskey Jack's but don't say I didn't warn you.

BEST FOOD in the Big Sky area in my opinion. The good is GREAT! I personally had the Bison Quesadilla which was very crunchy and tastefull. It was filled with bison meat, cheese, green bell peppers and topped with a nice pico de gallo sauce. The Snapper Sandwich is also great. The food is not to spicy and not to greasy. Have kids? no problem, Whiskey Jack's have a number of options for your child to choose from. The Grilled Cheese sandwich was the best. The bread is crunchy with the cheese all nice and melty on the inside. The side fries are the best that I have tasted here in Montana. The atmosphere was awesome ,a nice view of the mountains that surround you. Great customer service. The waiter GREG was so cool and down to earth. If you are ever in Big Sky, Montana, Whiskey Jack's is the place to go!

  • Roscoe R.

Although the food as Whiskey Jack's is mediocre, at least it costs less than at many similarly mediocre places at Big Sky. I got the Bison Quesadilla for lunch, and it was good -- flavorful. The service was good too, especially since the place was packed full when we went. Not much more to say, since that's all I got here!

Walking in at the end of a day on the slopes, as your boots crunch on the ice and your muscles complain of use and abuse, Whiskey Jacks beckons with the live music of vagabond cowboys and the promise of liquid sustenance. Couldn't bring myself to order a Makers-and-Coke at a Jack Daniels bar, but that said, the Moose Drool more than compensated. High tables and low tables offer diners the opportunity to wax poetic about their daring exploits on the ice, even as they consume copious amounts of nachos. Kudos to Dana L. for expediting the service by grabbing our own extra chips! The service was hit-and-miss with many of the employees providing the whole "I'm a ski bum and only work here to afford the lift ticket" experience to the customers. Unimpressive service from some, dedicated from others. The hot chocolate is excellent - but I suspect that may have more to do with the venue.

  • Ellie L.

I was pleasantly surprised at the food here! Given that it's the primary stop for grinds at the bottom of the lifts, I figured it might just be mediocre. But I was shocked that the cheese steak was fantastic! We went here for dinner one night with our group of 6 and we all loved our dishes, especially the tortilla soup. Portions were humongous and I split the cheese steak and the southwest cesar salad and both were great. I also had the watermelon margarita and thoroughly enjoyed it after a day on the mountain. We're definitely coming back here next year!

We just finished eating dinner here on our first night in big sky. I was starving and this was the first place we saw as we were trying get familiarized with the resort. Here's what we had: 1) buffalo wings: Tangy, spicy and pretty tasty. It was the best dish of the night. - 3.5 stars 2) "award winning" chili: I don't know what kind of award this won, but this was not chili that I am used to. I was expecting a nice hot bowl of hearty chili with bold spices, instead what I got was more of a thin, black bean soup with chunks of beef in it. I think this would've tasted better if it were called a different name. - 2 stars. 3) side green salad: the mixed greens were really fresh and crisp. The ranch dressing they serve here is one of the best I've ever had - 5 stars for the ranch dressing! 4) lomo saltado: this is a Peruvian dish that is kind of like Latin stir fry consisting of beef, onions, bell peppers, and fried potatoes in a rich, bold and spicy sauce. What they served here was a disgraceful version of this Peruvian staple. When you put a label on a dish i have certain expectations and my taste buds expect a certain experience. This was not a lomo saltado dish. Again, if they called this by a different name, I would have enjoyed it more. Alas, I left unsatisfied and disappointed. I might return here to have a salad and try their mile high nachos that the table next to us was eating. It looked delicious.

So ... the food was mediocre. The beer was warm. My real issue is with the management of the place. Twice I've gone there (after a day up at Big Sky ... not a ton of options) for some bar food and beer. Both times the staff began to break down the restaurant for a band while we were eating. Not a big deal ... a little distracting having to dodge chairs and tables moving all over the place. No, the big deal is that on both occasions they did not let anyone come into the restaurant a couple of hours before the band. We intended on staying for the band, but it was strange as the whole place emptied out. Finally, after spending over $150, a bouncer came over and told us that we needed to each pay $8 to stick for the band. I couldn't believe it. Do they realize that if they would have kept people in the place for the 2 hours they were clearing it out, they would have made WAY more than the $8 for the cover. I've worked in restaurants and bars for years. I've never seen a more chaotic and poorly managed (I'm talking about management philosophy ... the staff was quite well trained and moved quickly). I will not be back and will actively encourage people to go elsewhere when up at Big Sky.

I don't know how many times I have stumbled into Whiskey Jack's in my ski boots over the years, but I do know how satisfied I have always stumbled out. Whiskey Jack's can give you a wide range of portions and that is a wonderful thing in the skiing world. I don't know how many times I have been to Whiskey Jacks, but I'm sure I will be dining and drinking there many more times.

Apres ski was excellent with shots of good tequila, live music and the shredded nachos while your quads and back ache from boarding all day. Good stuff.
